Aramaic Vocabulary Project

This is the preliminary stage of a website that over the years will attempt to catalogue the vocabulary and idioms of the Western Neo-Aramaic spoken in the villages of Maaloula, Juba'adin and Sarkha, located about sixty kilometres north of Damascus, Syria.

This language is a direct descendant of the Aramaic that was the common language of the peoples living in the Levant at the beginning of the Common Era, which is why it is regularly characterized as “the language spoken by Jesus and his Apostles”.
